About Us:
Crecora National School opened its doors to the community in 1937. Since then it has progressed from a three-roomed building to its current modern premises where it resides today, led by principal Michael O'Gorman.
We are a state-of-the-art rural co-educational primary school where the child is at the centre of his/her education.
Currently, we have almost 220 children, 14 teachers, 3 special needs assistants, a school secretary, and a caretaker. We are under the patronage of the Catholic Church, and the sacraments of Communion and Confirmation form an integral part of our religious instruction. However, we warmly welcome people of other faiths and cultures to our school also.
We employ many methodologies in our teaching and strive to develop all aspects of the children in our care. We deliver the core curriculum as laid down by the Department of Education and Skills and engage in many literacy and numeracy initiatives such as CAPER, Literacy Lift Off, and Building Bridges to Comprehension.
We have also participated in many cross-curricular programs such as the Junior Entrepreneur Programme, earning our first JEP flag in 2013. We also received our first Discovery Primary Maths and Science award that same year.
Being aware of the wider world and a sustainable future is a key message in our school. Fundraising for Trocaire, Focus Ireland, Haiti, Bóthar, and Team Hope helps to raise children's social awareness. Every November we fundraise for Multiple Sclerosis Ireland, and we have participated in the Dear Grace Competitions in the past.
We place great importance on sport within our school and participate in all hurling, camogie, and football competitions under the auspices of Cumann na mBunscoil. We have been East and County champions on several occasions. We also participate in the Limerick School Sports in May each year, and both our boys and girls perform at a high standard. Cycling School Mid-West provides cycling tuition to third class each year, and all our pupils receive swimming lessons as part of the PE curriculum.
A love of music is also cultivated within the school, with participation in the Peace Proms Choir event. Tin Whistle is taught within the school, and children are encouraged to play instruments at sacramental and school celebrations throughout the year.
In Crecora, we believe in the constant evolution of our school. We strive to incorporate new methodologies and initiatives to enhance the quality of education for our children.
